Oppo is a global smartphone brand known for pushing mobile photography innovation. In the Philippines, Oppo has built a strong presence by combining cutting-edge camera technology with stylish, feature-rich devices tailored to the local market.

Challenge

Oppo wanted to promote the camera capabilities of the Oppo F7 in a way that felt organic and engaging to readers of Spot.ph, Manila’s largest urban lifestyle website. The challenge was to create a native advertising campaign that blended seamlessly with Spot.ph’s editorial tone while still promoting the brand. The goal was to highlight the phone’s photo quality without it feeling like a standard product advertisement.

Solution

Using audience insights from business intelligence, we discovered that Spot.ph readers have a strong interest in historical urban exploration and nostalgia. This led to a creative concept that connected the Oppo F7’s camera capabilities with local heritage:

  • Produced a native article titled “We Recreated Photos of Old Manila Using Only a Smartphone, and This Is the Result.”

  • Captured images of present-day landmarks in Manila, then stitched them side-by-side with archival photos to create powerful then-and-now visuals, all shot using the Oppo F7.

  • Ensured the piece maintained Spot.ph’s editorial style while subtly integrating key product features like AI Beauty and high-resolution output.

Results

The campaign exceeded expectations:

  • Achieved the target monthly readership of 10,000 and surpassed it by an additional 3,000 readers.

  • Generated strong social media engagement from readers sharing and commenting on the nostalgia-driven content.

  • Strengthened Oppo’s brand positioning as a smartphone of choice for photography enthusiasts in the Philippines.
